I want to start this by saying that if you are looking for a quick fix or a short cut, this isn’t it …. HOWEVER! This will teach you how to achieve anything you want to achieve whilst also making you truly fulfilled. It’s all well and good having the car, the house or even the partner you want, but unless you can honestly look at yourself in the mirror and LOVE what you see, what’s the point?
I also want to mention that non of the links I am adding in this post are affiliate links, or am I profiting in any way from these suggestions, this is purely about great things I have learnt and I think it only right that I pass it on.
I stumbled upon this way of thinking back in 2009, when I was coming to the end of my time at dance college and needing some kind of clear direction. I have to admit that I have always been open to different ideas, especially those that spread positivity and light to the world around you. I found the book The Secret by Rhonda Bryne, for those of you who have read it, you will know how AMAZING this book is and how it can really transform your life if you work at it. For those of you who don’t know, this book is based on the very controversial theory that every situation you have ever been in, any experience you have had in your life, good AND bad, has been a direct consequence of your own thoughts, put simply …
“Thoughts become things!”
Have you ever had a day when your alarm goes off and you groan, already hating the day before its started. You stumble out of bed and stub your foot, or realise there’s no more milk left for breakfast, you get dressed and head for the train station, only to miss your train by a few seconds. You get on the next train and everyone around you is annoying, you don’t get a seat and have an armpit in your face the entire journey. When you eventually get to work the day just gets progressively worse and you go to bed that night rejoicing that the day is finally over.
On the flip side, have you had one of those days where you have woken up feeling rested and calm, headed to the shower turned the radio on and your favourite song is playing. You head out for the day just as the rain stops and the sky starts to brighten. You get on the train and someone stands up offering you a seat, when you stop for a coffee, the barista randomly says, “it’s ok this ones on me”, it’s as though this day was created for you, (before you scoff! This day has happened to both me and my girlfriend on several occasions).
So whats the difference? … YOU!
More specifically, your thoughts! In the words of many great thinkers, “Like attracts like”. If you are constantly thinking negative thoughts, then that is what you will see in your life. It’s the reason people say things like “oh i’m always late”, “I never have any luck” and their right, if that’s what they think, then the Universe will make it so. With the same reasoning it’s why we all have friends who ‘just seem to be lucky’, it’s because they know no different.
Now I’m aware that this can be an abstract thought to wrap your head around, and a difficult pill to swallow, so stop and think about two separate days or experiences.
1. A day that was negative, maybe it was just a generally bad day or a specific event, analyse your thought process at the time.
2. Think of a time that was really positive, maybe you went on a trip and everything just seemed to go right or better then expected.
Yes! that’s right, it was all down to you! The way you think an approach EVERY day influences how that day goes.
I make a conscious effort when I wake up in the morning to smile and think about something I am looking forward to in that day. If something doesn’t seem to be going right, then I change it with my thoughts, I even have what I like to call ‘Mood Changers’, these are a mixture of videos, songs and pictures I know can instantly lift my mood. My favourite one at the moment is a video of the first time I caught a wave surfing last year in California. I watch that video and instantly remember the sound of the waves, the smell of the ocean, and the feeling of gliding on water … Its enough to get me out of any bad mood.
So here is my request for you, spend a day with healthy thoughts, instead of worrying that things will go wrong or letting yourself be dragged into the negative thoughts of others, smile and think of something great. Instead of thinking, ‘it’s another work day’ and assuming the day is going to be average, take charge and influence it with your thoughts to be a great day.
Tell me about your AMAZING day in the comments, lets share this positivity …
